На самом деле существует две команды. Первая из них 1969 года выпуска, действующая в 31-ом столетии в альтернативной вселенной Марвел (Земля - 691). В составе команды: майор Vance Astro (позже Major Victory), астронавт с Земли 20-ого века, который тысячу лет путешествовал на Альфу Центавра; Martinex T'Naga - прозрачное существо с Плутона; капитан Чарли-27 - вояка с Юпитера и Yondu Udonta - "благородный дикарь с синей кожей" с Бета Центавра IV. Эта группа в основном боролась с расой Badoon, завоевавшей большую часть обитаемого космоса. Ну и заодно регулярно наведывалась в основную 616-ую вселенную, не в последнюю очередь благодаря Vance Astro, в молодости являвшимся Vance Astrovic, он же Justice, он же Marvel Boy(член команды Мстителей из 616-ой). Вторая команда несколько интересней. Это такие Мстители космического масштаба. Меньше чем на спасение планеты они не разменивались. После Аннигиляции и вторжения Фаланги (Phalanx) на территорию Kree, Star-Lord ака Peter Quill решил сформировать подразделение для проактивной защиты Вселенной, а не как обычно реагировать на угрозу после ее появления. В команду вошли Adam Warlock, Drax the Destroyer, Gamora, Phyla-Vell (новый Квазар), Rocket Raccoon, и Groot. Команда селится в штаб-квартиру, находящуюся в оторванной голове Celestial, дрейфующего на краю пространственно-временного континуума. Очень скоро группа встречает замороженного во льду человека со щитом (ничего не напоминает?), который называет себя Vance Astro. Он-то и предлагает название Стражи Галактики. В 2013 запущен третий том.
