To keep the existing settings, you may install the new
version over the existing installation, into the same
folder. To perform a clean installation, uninstall the
previous version (using the Control Panel - Add/Remove
Programs command) and confirm that you want to delete
the old files and settings when prompted. Backup the
installation folder before uninstalling the old version!
(See below for more information). Then install the new
version and configure it from scratch.
IMPORTANT:
While the new versions are generally backward compatible
with the old versions, the opposite is not always true.
It means that while the upgrades from old versions to
the new ones are supported and handled automatically
for you, the "downgrades" from the new versions to the
old ones may not always be possible.
Backup the entire folder where you have previously
installed Folder Guard, before installing the new version,
to be able to restore the old version if you do not like
how the new version works.
You can install the new version into a new folder,
however some settings (such as the Master password)
may not be preserved in this case, and you will need
to set them up again, by running the new version from
the new folder and using its commands.
