Сюжет: Правосудие бесплатное, просто судьи нынче дорогие… В этом не раз успел убедиться адвокат-идеалист Артур Кёрклэнд, который настойчиво борется за справедливость и «правосудие для всех». К сожалению, его усилия оказываются напрасными. Из-за юридической формальности садится в тюрьму невиновный человек, другой клиент героя по уши вязнет в сфабрикованном против него деле. В довершение ко всему, именно Артуру выпадает неприятный долг защищать в суде продажного судью Флеминга от обвинений в изнасиловании. Это дело он и рад был бы проиграть, но, провалив защиту, герой изменил бы своим принципам! Однако сильная система его принципов скоро начинает трещать по швам, когда Кёрклэнд узнает, что Флеминг виновен как сам грех!..
